Sean Combs found guilty on two counts, but acquitted on most serious charges : NPR

This report includes mentions of physical and sexual violence.
A federal jury in Manhattan found Sean Combs, the hip-hop magnate also known as Diddy or Puff Daddy, guilty of two transport manager to engage in prostitution. He was found not guilty of a racketeer conspiracy chief and two sex trafficking chiefs.
The jury deliberated for 13 hours before announcing its shared decision after the trial that started on May 5.
Prosecutors of the South District of New York did not manage to assert to the jury that their two main witnesses, the ex-girlfriend of Combs, Casandra “Cassie” Ventura and another former girlfriend who testified under the pseudonym “Jane”, had not participated in consensually in the sexual and drunk marathons which referred to the “nights Wild “”.
Combs did not take a stand in his own defense, and his team of lawyers did not present witnesses. Instead, they highlighted hundreds of texts and publications on social networks in which Ventura and Jane have often expressed their enthusiasm for these sessions, despite the women who said later on the stand they felt in a hurry and manipulated in planning and participation. These relations, explained the defense team, were toxic and perhaps abusive, but did not comply with the standards of the government of federal crime.
The accusation was also unable to prove to the jury of 12 people that Combs had made a criminal plot or a crime union organized as part of the racketeering accusation. They had accused combs of several related crimes within this accusation, including forced work, corruption and obstruction of justice. In recent years, federal prosecutors have applied racket accusations (also known as Rico) – and in certain high -level cases against well -known hip -hop artists As well as in the highly publicized trial of R&B R. Kelly, who was found guilty of Rico and sex trafficking in 2021. But government lawyers failed in this case.
A conviction of racketeering would have brought the most serious potential incarceration time for the combs, with a maximum sentence of life prison. The convictions for the number of sexual traffic by force, fraud or coercion – one for Ventura, and one for Jane – each would have a minimum legal sentence of 15 years and to life prison.
The two heads of transportation to engage in prostitution – one concerning Ventura and male workers, and one concerning Jane and male workers – each bear a maximum sentence of 10 years.
Apart from this federal criminal trial, Combs continues to deal with dozens of civil prosecutions brought by former employees and associates. Ventura, who brought a civil prosecution against Combs in November 2023, settled in one day for $ 20 million. As part of these regulations, Combs did not recognize any reprehensible act.
At its professional peak, Combs, which won three Grammy Awards, was at the forefront of the hip-hop initiation to a traditional pop audience-and made the face of the label he has in co-ownership, bad boy records. He also built a related business empire, including the Sean John Fashion Company, a lucrative promotional partnership with the Diageo alcohol giant, and a media company which included the TV show VH1 formerly popular “Making the Band”, which presented it as an incredibly demanding boss who often disinterested employees in aspirants.
