This tiny encrypted SSD stores 4K videos, secures your secrets, and fits in your palm with no slowdown

- OWC hardware encryption activates instantly without sliding the performance of your computer during transfers
- The randomized touch screen keyboard helps block spying eyes and shoulder surfers trying to steal passwords
- Encrypted or not, the speed of 1000 MB / s of Ows Guardian SSD is fast enough for 4K video publishing
OWC announced Guardian, a compact portable SSD focused on the supply of solid material encryption and rapid transfer speeds.
The Guardian OWC connects via USB 3.2 Gen 2 (10 Gbit / s) and provides up to 1000 MB / s in real reading and writing speeds, which makes it able to manage 4K video files, media archives and fast backups.
Designed with 256 -bit AES material encryption, the Guardian manages data protection at the material level.
Seamless encryption without slowdown in the system
The encryption process starts automatically when the data is written and reversed (deciphered) when they are accessible by an authorized user.
This avoids dependence on host system resources, preserving performance even during major data transfers.
It is one of the few aircraft of its price range that combines both speed and encryption without software installation requirement, which can place it among the best secure readers for professional routine use.
OWC says the device is compatible with macOS, Windows, Linux and even iPados.
It includes a touchscreen interface, which serves as a main method for user authentication via pin or secret sentence, but also allows additional features such as multi-user profiles, reading mode alone, driving time, secure erasure and a provision of the randomized keyboard.
Physically, the reader is housed in anodized aluminum for improved heat dissipation and general sustainability.
However, unlike some of the best robust hard drives, the Guardian has no IP rating for dust or water resistance.
This can limit its reliability in field conditions or external environments, where environmental protection is a priority.
The Guardian is delivered with an SSD of 1 TB OWC will have Pro IV NVME (960 GB Usable) but is also available in higher capabilities, including a version of 4 TB.
Internal firmware reserves part of the space for data correction and redundancy.
It is formatted in APFS for default Apple devices, but can be reformulated for Windows or Android using the OWC Drive Guide.
However, access to complete multiplatform reading / writing requires separate software like MacDrive.
“We have designed the Guardian OWC for anyone who needs simple and reliable data protection on the move, but without typical hassles,” said Larry O’Connor, CEO and founder, other World Computing (OWC).
“Whether you transfer a huge file to the conference room, you save data in local coffee or change a 4K video for your last content drop, you should not have to choose between safety, speed and ease of use. The Guardian OWC delivers the three, in a robust and intuitive design designed to travel.”
The price starts at $ 219.99 for the 1.0 TB model while models of 2.0 TB and 4.0 TB cost $ 329.99 respectively and $ 529.99.
