Prep talk: City Section football teams thrive in the mud
People found out who the real muddies were on a rainy Friday night during the city section football playoffs.
Crenshaw beat No. 3 seed San Pedro 30-0 to advance to the Open Division semifinals next week in Birmingham. The Cougars received a punt return for a touchdown and an interception return for a touchdown from Kyron Rattler. Deance’ Lewis had a long touchdown run on the first possession and De’Andre Kirkpatrick contributed double figures in tackles.
Crenshaw is 9-1 under interim coach Terrence Whitehead. This means that Robert Garrett, on administrative leave, has 299 career victories. Birmingham defeated Granada Hills Kennedy 49-20.
Garfield received 440 rushing yards from Zastice Jauregui to end the Palisades’ undefeated season, 42-21. Garfield will play at No. 1 Carson, who beat King/Drew 27-2.
Venice was unstoppable on its turf field, beating Franklin 35-8 in the Division I playoffs.
Dorsey’s game at Eagle Rock was postponed until Monday due to a power outage at Eagle Rock.
