Congressional intern killed in Washington shooting

A 21 -year -old trainee in a Washington office of a Congress member was fatally killed on Monday in the city after armed men opened fire on a group of people, authorities announced.

Eric Tarpinien-Jachym was not the target of the shooters, who left a vehicle in the 7th and M NW streets and began to shoot around 10:28 p.m., said the Metropolitan Police Department.

A 16 -year -old woman and boy who survived, survived, police said in a statement.

The Tarpinien-Jachym was unconscious when the first speakers arrived and died on Tuesday at the hospital, the police service said.

Representative Ron Estes, R-Kan., Said that he and his wife, Susan, sent their condolences.

The Tarpinien-Jachym was a senior at the University of Massachusetts in Amherst who specialized in finance with a minor in political science, said the Estes office.

“I will remember his good heart and the way he has always greeted anyone who entered our office with a joyful smile,” Esttes in a statement.

“We are grateful to Eric for his service at the 4th district of Kansas and the country,” he said. “Please join Susan and I to pray for his family and respect their intimacy during this heartbreaking period.”

The vehicle used by the shooters was found, the police said, but no arrest has been announced. Police said “several suspects” shot a group of people.

The police service said it offered an award of up to $ 25,000 for information that led to the arrests and convictions of officials. The department offers this award for each homicide in the district.
