CHARLOTTE, Carolina del Norte, USA. (AP) — Los Angeles Clippers starter Chris Paul hinted at his possible retirement before the Hornets leave Charlotte on Saturday, when it would be his last game in his home state of North Carolina.
The Winston-Salem, North Carolina, native posted a video to social media about 90 minutes before the game began, showing moments the player spent for various NBA teams during his 21-year professional career. The video also includes footage of Paul from his childhood through high school, his playing days at Wake Forest and his selection in the league draft.
“¡De vuelta en Carolina del Norte! Qué viaje… Aún queda mucho… ¡AGRADECIDO por este último!!”, published Paul en X.
Paul, 40, signed a one-year contract to join the Clippers before the season.
“No one wants Nadie to retire. It’s a tough time, especially when he’s put so much work into his playing life,” commented entrepreneur Tyronn Lue before the game.
He added that it was “happiness to be able to come home to finish your career.”
Paul is not available for comment before departure.
Paul earned 2.5 points and 3.3 assists to play in a limited role for the Clippers.
An NBA All-Star, Paul was the fifth overall selection by the Charlotte Hornets in 2005 and was selected for the NBA’s All-Defensive First Team three times. He has played for different NBA teams and this is his second stop with the Clippers.
