Lakanwal is believed to have entered the United States following the American withdrawal from Afghanistan, several media outlets reported.
The suspect shouted “Allahu akbar!” » before opening fire with a revolver, according to journalist Julio Rojas. A National Guardsman at the scene stabbed the shooter with a pocketknife before another fired several shots that hit the attacker, Rojas reported.
On August 11, President Donald Trump announced a federal takeover of the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) in Washington, D.C., to combat crime in the District of Columbia, days after Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) staffer Edward Coristine, known as “Big Balls,” was seriously injured while trying to stop a mob from committing a carjacking.
MPD is reportedly holding the suspect while the FBI investigates the attack as an act of terrorism, according to NBC News. The FBI declined to comment when contacted by the DCNF.
