Holiday spending will be different this year. Here’s how

Despite tariffs – and perhaps partly because of them – holiday spending is expected increase this year. Retail sales are expected to increase 3.5% to 4.0% this season, with Americans spending more than $1.7 trillion in total.
Figures from the ICSC Holiday Shopping Intentions Survey also show that 243 million people plan to shop this year, with 92% of shoppers planning to make at least some purchases in a physical store.
“Despite economic concerns, our survey shows that consumers are committed to their holiday traditions and plan to shop,” said Tom McGee, ICSC president and CEO. “Our forecast reflects this resilience, but our data also signals a selective shopper, which is pushing retailers to connect with shoppers in new ways and provide them with memorable shopping experiences that inspire them to spend. »
