Trump’s Ukraine Plan Nearly Drove a GOP Rep. to Quit on the Spot
At least one Republican lawmaker was so outraged by the White House’s alleged Russia-Ukraine peace plan that he considered resigning from Congress on the spot.
The Trump administration unveiled a 28-point plan peace plan last week, it responded to some of Russia’s most outrageous demands, such as demanding that Ukraine renounce its NATO membership and cede Crimea and the eastern Donbass region. These two details alone reversed long-standing U.S. policy toward the region.
Lawmakers on both sides of the aisle balked at the arrangement, but Nebraska Rep. Don Bacon was reportedly “so angry” at the idea that he considered leaving the lower chamber altogether, he said. Axios Monday evening.

Ukraine and its European partners were excluded from the process of developing the plan, reported The guardian. But there is evidence that the plan may have come directly from the Kremlin: several sentences in the document are passive and awkward in English but make more sense when translated into Russian. This could be due to the influence of Kirill Dmitriev, Russian President Vladimir Putin’s envoy, who worked on the project alongside Witkoff.
Donald Trump has presented himself for months as a great peacemaker, claiming that he has so far resolved eight foreign conflicts. Virtually all of his boasts about resolving the war are “patently false”, as many of the examples he often cites were never even at war.
