Helldivers 2’s new ‘slim’ version saves 131GB of space on your drive

If you are running out of storage on your PC, the latest Helldiverse 2 a beta update might help. Developers announced on Tuesday that they had successfully reduced PC file sizes to Helldiverse 2 by about 85 percent, freeing up enough space for at least one or two more large games.
“The long-term goal has always been to bring the PC install size closer to the console versions. We are happy to announce that, thanks to our partners at Nixxes, we have achieved this goal much sooner than expected. By completely deduplicating our data, we were able to reduce the PC install size from ~154 GB to ~23 GB, for a total savings of ~131 GB.”
Reducing file sizes should have a “minimal” impact on loading times, “a few seconds at most,” the developers said. The original file size was significantly larger because the developers duplicated data from game assets to improve loading times on mechanical hard drives, which they estimate to be around 11% of loading time. Helldiverse 2 players are currently using.
However, as the update article explains, developers now know that loading times in Helldiverse 2 are primarily due to level generation, not loading game assets, so duplicating asset data provided minimal benefit and impacted a small percentage of players (while increasing file size for everyone).
Anyone who owns the PC version of Helldiverse 2 You can opt for the technical public beta on Steam to get the “thin” version of the game, which will eventually become the default version once the developers fix any remaining issues that arise during beta testing.
