‘Armed and dangerous’ Rockdale inmate recaptured days after escaping from hospital
An “armed and dangerous” Rockdale County inmate who escaped Monday is now in custody after a multi-day manhunt.
Rockdale County Sheriff’s Office deputies and Covington police arrested Timothy Shane in Covington Wednesday morning. Investigators will hold a news conference at noon.

Shane escaped from Grady Memorial Hospital Monday morning and stole a gun and two cars, according to investigators.
Before he was arrested in Newton County, he was last seen being picked up by an Uber driver at a Publix in Henry County.

Covington police said they received reports of a suspicious person matching Shane’s description on Pennington Street around 6 p.m. Tuesday. Police searched the area for an hour, but nothing was revealed.
Around 1 a.m., another homeowner on Green Acres Court reported Shane knocking on his door. She gave police Ring camera footage that showed Shane wearing a gray hoodie. Investigators confirmed it was Shane.
The Rockdale K-9 unit responded to the scene and began tracking. Other homeowners on Ford Street and Thrash Street reported seeing Shane.
K-9 units began a second trail on Thrash Street, which led them to a vacant house at 9102 Morris Drive. Investigators found a broken window and discovered Shane hiding inside.
