Terry Crews used art to make money during NFL career with Washington
Terry Crews was talented and in the NFL.
Crews was a strong and fast assistant for Washington Redskins, and then it was not.
The trip of the crews to the NFL had not come easily. He could not play in a large Big Ten or dry university; Instead, he played in western Michigan. However, the crews showed enough speed, strength and athletics that it was drafted by the rams in the 11th round (281 in total) during the draft of the NFL 1991.
But life in the NFL is very different from reading for one of the 365 NCAA football teams in division 1.. The NFL was 28 teams when Crews played its first season with the RAMs in 1991. It is quite difficult to make a list of 53 men as the crews did with the RAMs.
He was cut by several NFL teams, but he has played a season each for three NFL teams: Rams (1991), Chargers (1993) and Redskins (1995). The NFL is brutal, and for all his hard work, he was able to contribute only one solo tackle and on the aid to the Redskins that the NFL season of his career. The career of the secondary in the NFL ended up sudden when the Redskins released it.
The crews would go to Hollywood later, having the chance to win roles in several television shows and several films as well. But he didn’t just have Hollywood recruited at the end of his career in the NFL. He had to count on other talents.
The surprising path for the crews was the HE was very artistic and developed these talents as a growing child at Flint Michigan. He received a flute and took lessons for eight years. He liked to draw and paint and did it well enough for receiving an art scholarship in western Michigan, then later joined the football team. He even once attracted hearing sketches during the trial of a horrible murder case in Flint.
Telling his story once on an appearance of Jimmy Kimmel Show, Crews told how he was able to play for three NFL teams, but actually made six different teams in seven seasons while trying to make a list. Thus, he would ask the players if they want him to paint a portrait for them. He would do it and they would pay it. This is how he made money some of these years before going to Hollywood.
Here is one of these portraits, from the teammate of Washington Redskins of Crews, Brian Mitchell. Crews was 27 years old when he produced this wonderful portrait of Mitchell. His talents in music, art, game are talents that he can (and still) use today, 30 years after the end of his football career.
