President Donald Trump on Friday ordered a sweeping federal review of every childhood vaccine recommendation in the United States, just hours after a CDC advisory committee voted to end its longstanding guidance that infants receive the hepatitis B vaccine at birth, calling the rule unnecessary for healthy newborns.
“Today, the CDC’s Vaccine Committee made the very good decision to end its hepatitis B vaccine recommendation for babies, the vast majority of whom are at NO RISK for hepatitis B, a disease that is transmitted primarily sexually or through dirty needles,” Trump wrote.
The president also criticized what he sees as a vaccination schedule that requires “much more than is necessary.”
“The U.S. childhood immunization program has long required 72 ‘shots’ for perfectly healthy babies, far more than any other country in the world, and far more than necessary,” the president added. “Actually, it’s ridiculous! Many parents and scientists have questioned the effectiveness of this ‘program’, as have I!”

Trump announced he had signed a memo ordering HHS to accelerate the current U.S. vaccination schedule.
“I have just signed a Presidential Memorandum directing the Department of Health and Human Services to “ACCELERATE” a comprehensive assessment of the vaccination schedules of other countries around the world, and to better align the United States’ vaccination schedule, so that it is finally anchored in the gold standard of science and COMMON SENSE!” Trump wrote.
President Trump closed his message by reiterating his support for his HHS Secretary, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., writing, “I have every confidence that Secretary Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. and the CDC will get this done, quickly and correctly, for our nation’s children.” »
