Back from injury, star St. John’s Prep QB returns for Super Bowl

FOXBOROUGH – Five-star quarterback Chris Vargas started the game for St. John’s Prep in the Division 1 Super Bowl against Xaverian at Gillette Stadium.
The Eagles kicked off first to Xaverian and got the ball back with 9:30 left in the first quarter after a three-and-out by the Hawks.

The sophomore did not play in the final two playoff games or on Thanksgiving against Xaverian, as the top-seeded Eagles reached the Super Bowl for the first time since 2023. St. John’s Prep is seeking its first title since 2022.
Vargas injured his leg against Framingham in the round of 16 on November 8.
He has offers from Ohio State, Illinois, Georgia, Boston College and Auburn.
Vargas has been the Eagles’ starting quarterback for two years.
St. John’s Prep is seeking its seventh Super Bowl title in its 11th trip. Senior John Budrow steered the ship over the final two rounds, as the Eagles relied on a dominant running game.

Xaverian is the two-time defending Division 1 Super Bowl champion looking for a three-peat.
