This Week’s Wildest RedState Reads

Welcome to RedState’s weekly briefing – where we quickly take a look at the most viewed stories of the week in case you missed one. What do you think caught people’s attention during this last hectic week? Grab a cup of coffee (or something stronger if you like) and sit down with this 21st century weekend edition of your favorite (online) publication.
#1 – Pass the popcorn: Kash Patel has some intriguing news on the Comey affair and these ‘burn bags’ — by Nick Arama
“So we are not finished,” Patel stressed. “I would say stay tuned right after Thanksgiving, and you’ll see multiple responses, in my opinion.” Hmm, that looks good, pass the popcorn. This certainly makes it seem like he has more than just one case as an option. He seems confident about what he has.
That wasn’t all. Patel had some juicier news to give us about these “burn bags.” We broke the astonishing news at the end of July that they had found a room at the FBI with the bags, which contained investigative documents on Russia. This raised many questions about the content of these documents. Patel said all this information will be released so we can see it.

#2 – This story about Hegseth and the drug boat strike just imploded even more — by Nick Arama
This is very different from the image Democrats were trying to promote, that Hegseth was ordering the killing of castaways stranded in the water.
The New York Times also cites officials pointing out another problem with the narrative.
Both officials questioned whether the surviving people were Admiral Bradley’s intended target in the second strike, as opposed to the alleged drugs and the disabled ship. They argued that the purported cargo remained a threat and a legal military target because another boat associated with the cartel could have come to collect it.
Translation? Disabled is not done and is no longer a threat. We were treated to another story of the “48 hour rule”. It is deployed with great fanfare and outrage. Then, as more facts emerge, you realize that’s not what the Democrats were claiming. But it instead helped fuel the Democratic narrative about “illegal orders.”

#3 – The story of the attack on an NYU student got much worse – by Katie Jerkovich
The NYPD later reported that James Rizzo, a 45-year-old homeless man, was suspected of the crime and had been arrested. He was charged with assault, persistent sexual abuse and forcible touching in connection with the incident.
And it turns out it’s not the first time. The New York Post reported that Rizzo had a lengthy criminal history, with 16 prior arrests in total.
The report said:
Rizzo has already been arrested 16 times, including for sexual abuse and forcible touching, and even for murder in 1997. He was released from state prison in September after being sentenced to two years in prison for persistent sexual abuse, according to online corrections records.
He was conditionally released in September and was still out when the alleged attack occurred. Among other arrests, he was charged with burglary four times, ABC 7NY reported.

#4 – White House Roasts Jill Biden’s Christmas Clown Show After Melania Upgrades Decorations – by Rusty Weiss
Who could forget this parody? A parody described by Mrs. Biden as a “bit of magic, wonder and joy”. Yeah, as long as you can ignore the fuel that comes with it.
Ah, who doesn’t Miss the days when the White House was transformed into a high school play, complete with fur masks and a guy with a giant purple flower on his head?
A bit of magic, wonder and joy brought by the talented tappers of Dorrance Dance, performing their playful rendition of The Nutcracker Suite.

– Jill Biden Archived (@FLOTUS46Archive) December 13, 2023
What was that, exactly?
The Economic Times described Dr. Jill’s decorations as including a “maypole that resembled a circus tent” and “window curtains…replaced with multi-colored ribbon, creating the illusion of a fun house entrance.”
No matter, Melania, as she often does, reclassifies the places. Its theme, “Home Is Where The Heart Is,” shows the character of the White House that has been gone for years.

#5 – Musk Gives Epic One-Word Response to Insane EU X Speech and Gets Support from Rubio – by Katie Jerkovich
Musk’s simple response couldn’t have been more American. Underneath the EU message, he simply wrote: “Bulls—.”
Bullshit
– Elon Musk (@elonmusk) December 5, 2025
In a follow-up post some time later, Musk explained how the fine posed a threat to democracy.
Freedom of expression is the foundation of democracy.
The only way to know what you’re voting for.
– Elon Musk (@elonmusk) December 5, 2025
“Freedom of expression is the foundation [of] democracy. That’s the only way you’ll know what you’re voting for,” Musk said.
