Trump responds to “traitor” Marjorie Taylor Greene after “60 Minutes” interview

Washington — President Trump blasted former ally Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene on Truth Social Monday morning, following the Georgia Republican. told CBS News’ 60 Minutes“The president has abandoned his base.
Once one of Mr. Trump’s staunchest allies in Congress, Greene has become one of the few Republicans willing to speak out publicly against him. As she prepares to resign from Congress before the end of his term, Greene said “60 Minutes” correspondent Lesley Stahl isn’t living up to her “America First” motto, and she connected the death threats she says she received to the president’s comments about her.
The president said the only reason Greene “went bad was because she was JILTED by the President of the United States.”
“Marjorie is not AMERICA FIRST or MAGA, because no one could have changed her mind that quickly, and her new views are those of a very stupid person,” the president wrote on Truth Social, calling Greene a “failure” and a “low IQ traitor.”
The president also lambasted Stahl, “60 Minutes” and the new owner from Paramount, CBS’ parent company, denouncing the company’s decision to “allow a show like this to air.” He added: “Since they bought it, 60 Minutes has gotten worse!”
Greene, who voted with Mr. Trump 98% of the time before their relationship began to deteriorate, said she believed the president had failed to put domestic issues at the top of his agenda and, in her video announcing his resignation, criticized his support for the crypto and pharmaceutical industries.
His relationship with Mr. Trump began to deteriorate over the issues related to Jeffrey Epstein. Epstein was facing federal sex trafficking charges when he committed suicide in 2019.
Greene told “60 Minutes” that after the president called her a traitor, she received a bomb threat to her home — and then “several direct death threats against my son.”
Asked about her claim that the president was responsible for the threats against her and her son, Greene responded: “The subject of the direct death threats against my son were his words: ‘Marjorie Traitor Greene.’
Greene told “60 Minutes” that the threats were “fueled directly by President Trump. And I told him. I talked to JD Vance about it. I told them everything. I sent it to them directly.”
“JD Vance said, ‘We’ll look into it,'” Greene added. “I had [a] response from President Trump that I will keep private, but it wasn’t very nice.”
But when Stahl asked if the president had kicked her out of Congress, she said no.
“I’m not going to be anyone’s battered wife,” she said.
Stahl also questioned the strong support Mr. Trump nonetheless enjoys among congressional Republicans.
“I think they’re terrified that they’re going to step out of line and get a nasty message on Truth Social,” Greene said. Stahl asked, “And they’re monitoring what happened to you?”
“Yes,” Greene replied.
Last month, Greene apologized on CNN for what she said was her role in contributing to America’s often venomous political environment with her language. But she also sparred with Stahl on the subject on “60 Minutes.”
Stahl asked Greene “to respond to what you’ve done in terms of insulting people, yelling at people.” Greene countered that Stahl was being “accusatory.” After Stahl responded, “I don’t insult people,” Green told him: “[Y]you do the way you ask questions. And that is the case, you are accusing me right now. »
