It seems likely that the Texas Longhorns will have Arch Manning as their quarterback in 2026.

That makes the QB depth chart behind Manning a tough spot to find in Austin, and it appears it will become lighter.

Trey Owens is expected to enter the transfer portal, according to On3.

Owens has been with the Longhorns for two seasons.

He was originally a four-star recruit from Cy-Fair (Texas) in the class of 2024, ranking 20th nationally in his class.

In high school, Owens was an All-American.

He threw for 6,411 yards at Cy-Fair with 81 touchdowns, completing 70% of his passes.

Owens played in two games during the 2024 season for Texas, completing two passes for 19 yards.

He didn’t play at all in 2025.

Manning hasn’t made his decision yet. Before this season, he was considered a candidate to be a top-10 pick in the NFL Draft, but inconsistencies led many to believe Manning would spend another year in college first.

If Manning were to go to the NFL anyway, the Longhorns might really need a new quarterback out of the transfer portal, as losing Manning and Owens would leave the cupboard pretty empty.

But if Manning is back, Texas will be fine.

Owens, with a strong pedigree, also has a good chance of landing on his feet.
