After Over a Decade I Bought a Physical Gaming Magazine—And It’s Magical

It is ironic that the very work I do – to write for online publications – technological magazines in the past ten years approximately. Traffic has started to drop when you can get the same content, instantly and for free as long as you can support a small ad to pay the bills – thank you for that!
However, unexpectedly, I found that one of my favorite video game magazines here in South Africa when I grew up, I decided to start printing paper magazines again – and I bought them! Here is a rare chance for me to relive what it is to buy a game magazine in 2025!
My favorite game magazines have gone there.
I bought all kinds of computer magazines and games over the years. I did not really get regular internet access after leaving high school, so my main source of information came in the form of a magazine. There were international magazines imported or located such as PC format Who had most of the same things as the British version, but letters and some other specific songs in my country – South Africa.
Then there was everything at home New Age Gaming more commonly called NAG. Like the other magazines that I bought every month, Nag saw the writing on the wall and went to a blog, because the alternative was to close completely.

I would like us to never turn the page on it.
A very Nice gesture that the site was created was to download a magazine archive, which is unfortunately incomplete, but always has a ton of problems, and you can read them all for nothing. I literally have none of my magazines over the years, because I have never come to mind to save them or recover them. I would keep them for a few months, and they would be so worn that I would throw them. You really never appreciate something before he left!
I always read them online, but it’s not the same thing
You can bet that I have downloaded and kept my own copies from these old NAG magazine analysis, and with my faithful 12.9 inch iPad Pro, reading them is easy and comfortable. I also regularly descent into the Internet archives for its various chests of old game magazines. I also buy digital magazines on platforms like Zinio, despite internet access like everyone else.
However, reading a digitally magazine is simply not the same as reading one on a screen. I feel like I’m looking at the real thing through the glass, and there is something to say for the smell, the look and the feeling of paper. On the one hand, as well as the screens have become, they still do not have the contrast, color and texture of high -end magazine prints.

It’s more pleasant too.
Now they make seasonal printed editions
Return to Nag, I traveled the site as I do from time to time, and I noticed that the site sold paper magazines again. Not reprints of the old problems (although I would have broken down for this), but new honest problems for goods during our current year. It’s very strange to see a game like Assassin’s Creed Shadows On the cover of a paper magazine. Honestly, I have the impression of being in a parallel universe where game magazines have survived the web-polypse for paper publishers.
Now they don’t bring out monthly problems or something like that. Instead, there are a few problems every year, and you can even buy them in packages for a discount. So I ordered all the problems I missed (three) and soon they arrived by post, as real magazines.
Paging in these magazines is a whole trip, it instantly brings me 20 years to lounge on the sofa and read on video game stuff.

No clicks, I paid for my ticket at the door, so it is not necessary to tell me to read each article.
And the arrangementOne of the greatest things that I miss after we have gone to websites because our main way to read the articles is the art of office publication, this means that reading does not only concern words on the page, it is also the aesthetics of writing, which is honestly one of the major reasons why I buy more physical books these days.
These magazines will not be in the trash
The other big difference compared to these new paper magazines is that they are not as at lower cost as before. Of course, the current printing technology has probably evolved, but the quality of the paper, the robustness of the spine and the quality of the printing itself is much better than I remember.
So these beautiful magazines take place on my library with other printed materials that I plan to collect and keep long terms. I will no longer make the mistake of throwing my magazines!
