ChatGPT can now use Adobe apps to edit your photos and PDFs for free

Adobe offers ChatGPT users new features to design and edit their work without having to switch applications. New apps for Photoshop, Acrobat and Adobe Express launch today directly within ChatGPT, allowing users to create designs or adjust photos and PDFs by describing whatever they want.

Adobe apps are free and can be activated by typing the app name next to a downloaded file and conversational instructions, such as “Adobe Photoshop, help me blur the background of this image.” ChatGPT users will not have to re-specify the app name during the same conversation to make additional changes. Depending on the instructions, Adobe’s applications may offer a selection of results to choose from or provide a user interface element that the user can control manually, such as Photoshop sliders to adjust contrast and brightness.

ChatGPT applications do not provide all the functionality of Adobe’s desktop software. Adobe claims that the Photoshop application can edit specific sections of images, apply creative effects and adjust image settings such as brightness, contrast and exposure. Acrobat in ChatGPT can edit existing PDFs, compress and convert other documents to PDF, extract text or tables, and merge multiple files together.

The Adobe Express application allows ChatGPT users to generate and edit designs, such as posters, invitations and social media graphics. Everything in the design can be changed without leaving ChatGPT, from replacing text or images to changing colors and animating specific sections. Adobe’s ChatGPT apps are available worldwide on desktop, web, and iOS. The Adobe Express ChatGPT app can also be used on Android devices, with Android support for Photoshop and Acrobat “coming soon,” according to Adobe.

Integrating Adobe’s Creative Cloud apps directly into ChatGPT could help both services fend off competition from Google’s Gemini AI, which introduced its own image-editing capabilities in May. It’s also the latest step in Adobe’s plan to deploy agentic AI solutions that allow its creative applications to be used in a more conversational way, removing some of the skill barriers required for photo editing and design.
