Senate Republicans Again Outmaneuver Dems in Their Attempt to Hold up Hundreds of Pres. Trump’s Nominees – RedState

Only a few months ago, hundreds of President Trump’s appointees to join his administration found themselves caught in an impasse caused by Senate Democrats in resistance mode.

We had another reminder of the game along the same lines earlier this week, when the president moved away from the upper house tradition of blocking blue ballots, following the resignation of New Jersey’s Acting U.S. Attorney Alina Habba.

But in September, as RedState wrote, Leader John Thune and Senate Republicans ended the gridlock, changing the rules on nomination votes and dropping the 60-vote requirement to avoid a filibuster by Democrats.

On Wednesday, on a vote of 51-47, they did it again, outwitting Democrats while passing a procedural vote to confirm, get this. almost 100 at a time

The move marks a subsequent vote on 97 of Trump’s picks and marks the third time Senate Republicans have advanced a bloc of the president’s nominees since confirmation rules changed in September.

Among the list of candidates are former Rep. Anthony D’Esposito, R-N.Y., to serve as inspector general at the Department of Labor, and two picks for the National Labor Relations Board, James Murphy and Scott Mayer, among several others at nearly every federal agency.

It’s also the second attempt by Senate Republicans to advance the package after Sen. Michael Bennet, D-Colorado, opposed it last week in an effort to derail the process.

Senate Republicans went nuclear and changed the rules surrounding the confirmation process in an effort to break Senate Democrats’ months-long blockade of Trump nominees and limit its scope to only subcabinet-level positions that would be promoted by a simple 50-vote majority.

What happens next? The Senate appears set to vote on these nominations next week.

Senate Republicans took to their X account to comment on their success in thwarting the left’s obstructionist tactics on Wednesday, writing:

We are on track to confirm 400 Trump nominees this year.

Senate Republicans confirmed more nominees this year than in the first year of the Biden administration or Trump 1.0.

It’s good to see that!
