Letters: Fernando Valenzuela gets their votes for Hall of Fame

Very sad and disappointed to read that Fernando Valenzuela did not get the necessary Hall of Fame votes. In hindsight, voters would have been advised to read Erik Nusbaum’s “Stealing Home” about the Dodgers’ negative impact on the community with the decision to move families from Chavez Ravine to make room for their planned stadium.
With the many sports reporting sites now available, Valenzuela’s impact and immediate success on and off the diamond during this era in growing the Hispanic fan base to current levels would be much more appreciated.
Valenzuela playing for the Dodgers was truly a “feel good” story in helping to heal our sports and cultural community.

Who has heard of the so-called “Contemporary Baseball Era Committee?” » Now, who has heard of Fernando Valenzuela? Almost every sports fan alive! He was a legend. A man who did so much more for baseball and the local community. Fernando is definitely a Hall of Famer in more ways than one!

As a player, Fernando Valenzuela may not quite be a Hall of Famer, but as someone who totally changed our national pastime, he should be a resounding YES.
May he RIP.
