In April 2025, the Main Marmara Fault, beneath the Marmara Sea in northwest Turkey, experienced its largest earthquake in more than 60 years. In a study published in Science, a team of researchers led by Professor Patricia Martínez-Garzón of the GFZ Helmholtz Geoscience Center in Potsdam, Germany, analyzes nearly two decades of seismic data surrounding the April 2025 magnitude M 6.2 earthquake.
