Prep talk: The Shaws enjoy a memorable basketball moment at Oak Park

Sometimes it can be difficult when a high school coach also has his son on the team, but there are also those unforgettable moments that make every second spent together magical. Such a moment happened Friday night for Oak Park basketball coach Aaron Shaw and his son, sophomore guard Grant Shaw.
Grant scored three points from beyond the top of the key as the buzzer sounded to give host Oak Park a 54-51 victory over rival Agoura.
Then, for some reason unknown at the time, Grant ran in the opposite direction, followed by his teammates and the screaming Oak Park fans. There were so many people celebrating that he ended up being pushed into the gym lobby.
From the bench watched his father, who did not understand why his son was leaving the gym. “The coaches were asking, ‘Where is he going?’” he said.
It turns out that the influx of people celebrating forced Grant into the hall. His father then reminded him to maybe stay at the gym next time.
But make no mistake, Aaron won two Southern Section titles as a coach, and this moment ranks among the best.
“Proud moment Dad,” he said.
