President Donald Trump said American Jews celebrating Hanukkah should not worry for their safety after the Bondi Beach attack.
“Celebrate proudly — be proud of who you are,” Trump told Fox News on Sunday.
The president’s comments come after Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese condemned the mass shooting at a “Hanukkah by the Sea” celebration at Bondi Beach, calling it a “targeted attack on Australian Jews.”
“An attack on Australian Jews is an attack on every Australian and every Australian tonight will, like me, be devastated by this attack on our way of life,” Albanese told a news conference. “There is no place for this hatred, violence and terrorism in our country. Let’s be clear. We will eradicate them.”

At a government meeting in Dimona, Israel, on Sunday, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said he had warned Albanese in an August letter that the Australian government’s policies were encouraging anti-Semitism.
Netanyahu accused Albanese of failing to act on the spread of anti-Semitism and said inaction helped foster a climate of growing hostility toward Jews.

“We witnessed the action of a courageous man – who happens to be a courageous Muslim man, and I salute him – who stopped one of these terrorists from killing innocent Jews. But this requires action from your government, which you are not taking,” Netanyahu said during the meeting. “And you must, because history will not forgive hesitation and weakness. It will honor action and strength.”

Yael Eckstein, president of the International Association of Christians and Jews, said the attack was a wake-up call for Jews.
“The terror doesn’t stop in America or Europe or Australia. It doesn’t just target Jews, it targets Christians as well,” Eckstein said on “Fox & Friends Weekend.” “The answer to this darkness is light.”
