Brown University Shooting No Longer the Story — Now It’s the Bumbling Leftist DEI-Ridden Investigation – RedState

Unfortunately, Americans are all too comfortable with school shootings. We’ve seen them perform from elementary schools to college campuses. Because the targets of these attacks are children and young people, we want the shooter to be apprehended immediately. This requires a combination of good police work and help from the public, who want to play an active role in keeping their community safe. Recently, another school shooting occurred, this time on the campus of Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island. However, the shooting is no longer the story; This is the total absurdity of the investigation.

This most recent attack cost the lives of two students and injured nine others. Brown University is an urban campus surrounded by residential neighborhoods. In 2025, it should be reasonable to expect that when you leave your home, you will be filmed, especially with the advent of Ring residential door cameras. And it happened. Police are attempting to identify a person of interest seen on multiple Ring cameras in the area before and after the shooting.

This is where the investigation takes a downright comic turn. If it wasn’t literally deadly serious, it would almost feel like a “Police Academy” movie. So far, authorities have no idea who the person of interest is, even though Brown University has 1,200 security cameras around campus, but none on the perimeter to see who is entering or leaving. But that’s just the tip of the Keystone Cops iceberg. Authorities do not know how many students were in the room at the time of the shooting and do not have a list of possible witnesses.

Surveillance footage aside, the real story here is the complete and utter ineptitude of those leading the investigation, and the DEI mess that is Brown University and the surrounding Providence area. Let’s start with Rodney Chatman, Brown University’s chief of public safety. Prior to his current position at Brown, Chatman was responsible for campus security at the University of Utah. Immediately after his hiring at Utah, he was suspended for not having the required qualifications. Utah gave him a choice: resign or be fired. Chatman resigned. Just before the shooting, Brown’s police union issued a vote of no confidence in Chatman. Officers said he put them in danger and created a “toxic work culture.” As you might guess at a prestigious Ivy League school on the East Coast, diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) is king. Brown University President Christina H. Paxon has consistently caved to left-wing academic groups.

But the DEI mess doesn’t stop off campus. Because “firsts” matter when you focus on DEI, Providence, Rhode Island’s police chief is Oscar L. Perez, Jr., the first Latino police chief. But Chief Perez might have a problem with his nephew, who was sentenced to 22 years in prison for running one of Rhode Island’s largest fentanyl rings. Providence Mayor Brett Smiley promoted Perez, knowing of his nephew’s legal troubles. The reason: “diversify” the department. Last but not least, there is the chief of staff for the Providence City Council, someone named June Rose. “June” uses “them” pronouns and was arrested in March for protesting outside Trump Tower.

Two people died, including the vice-president of the campus Republican Club; however, it is unclear if this was the motive for the shooting. But don’t worry, this band of DEI warriors are on the case. What could go wrong?
