This new retro-inspired MP3 player is also a USB DAC

FiiO just announced the Snowsky Disc, a brand-new digital audio player that blends throwback CD style with serious modern audio guts. This device follows the success of the Snowsky Echo Mini and Nano players, but it offers a unique aesthetic twist that adds nostalgia.
The Snowsky Disc is built around a minimalist sound system that truly puts listening first. At the core of the experience is a robust dual audio DAC architecture. This high-end setup is specifically tuned to give you a sound that is faithful to the original recording, across every file type you can throw at it.
The most distinctive visual element is definitely that circular touch screen. The design choice is a clear nod to the classic CD Player, but with a modern, high-res touch interface. This lets you easily view album cover artwork and lyrics. If you’d prefer to manage your music remotely, you can also control the player using the FiiO control smartphone app.
I really appreciate that the interface itself is designed to be clean and responsive. The design is clearly focused on keeping app distractions minimized so you can just focus on the music itself. Despite its compact size, the Snowsky Disc is built for massive libraries. It offers MicroSD expansion up to a whopping 2TB.
This is a huge win for anyone who still wants their entire FLAC collection on the go without worrying about a Wi-Fi signal or monthly subscriptions. Also, the battery life looks respectable. It offers up to 12 hours of continuous playback. That’s solid endurance that should easily get you through long listening sessions or commutes without needing a recharge.
The physical ports are surprisingly generous for the price. For wired fans, you get dual headphone outputs right out of the box. This includes the standard 3.5mm single-ended jack and a beefier 4.4mm balanced output. The Snowsky Disc also doubles as a digital hub. Thanks to its USB DAC features and USB audio output, it can seamlessly integrate with your laptop or phone.
It also connects easily to hi-fi systems or wireless speakers. If you have a more traditional setup, the inclusion of SPDIF output lets you connect easily to external home DACs and amplifiers. For wireless listening, LDAC high-definition Bluetooth gives high-quality audio transmission to compatible headphones and speakers. The built-in Wi-Fi isn’t just for streaming either.
It lets FiiO push firmware updates, ensuring the device can evolve with future software improvements. While it’s a local-first player, the inclusion of AirPlay and Wi-Fi means you aren’t totally cut off from modern streaming conveniences.
There’s one playful twist that I really like. The Snowsky Disc supports retro sound effects, which let you explore different sonic flavors inspired by classic audio gear. It’s a fun way to mess around with your sound and add a little nostalgia to your listening.
If you want to upgrade your portable listening game without breaking the bank, this is a great choice. The Snowsky Disc launches in January and should retail for a very affordable price, sitting around $80.
