Supreme Court Blocks Trump’s National Guard Occupation of Chicago

The Supreme Court on Tuesday upheld the blockage of the National Guard’s deployment to Chicago, dealing a major blow to the Trump administration and adopting an interpretation of the laws governing Guard activation that differs significantly from that of the administration.
The majority was unsigned, although Justice Brett Kavanaugh wrote a separate agreement. Justice Samuel Alito, joined by Justice Clarence Thomas, wrote a dissent and Justice Neil Gorsuch wrote another.
This decision will reverberate throughout Trump’s attempt to deploy the Guard to Democratic cities across the country; several other cases remained in limbo awaiting the Court’s late decision.
