Rep. Harriet Hageman, a Republican, is running for the Wyoming Senate next year, seeking to replace outgoing Republican Sen. Cynthia Lummis, who announced last week she would not seek reelection.

Trump quickly gave Hageman “my complete and utter endorsement, writing on Truth Social hours after launching his campaign that he knows Hageman well and that she “is a TOTAL WINNER!” Harriet has ALWAYS delivered on her promises for Wyoming and will continue to do so in the United States Senate. »

Hageman, 63, was elected the state’s sole representative to Congress in 2022 after ousting then-Rep. Liz Cheney during a primary. Hageman had Trump’s support against Cheney, a vocal critic of the president, and the congresswoman name-checked the president in her three-minute launch video Tuesday.

“I stood with President Trump to deliver the largest tax cut in American history, helping working families keep more of their own money,” Hageman said, later adding, “We worked together to secure the border and fund efforts to deport and remove people in the country illegally.”

“We must continue this fight, and that is why I am announcing my campaign for U.S. Senate today,” Hageman said. “This fight is about ensuring that the next century sees the progress of the last century while protecting our culture and way of life. We must dedicate ourselves to ensuring that the next 100 years are the next great American century.”

Hageman considered running for governor but ultimately decided to run for Senate, noting in an interview with Cowboy State Daily published Tuesday that “it’s important that we have someone who can jump in right now.” [Lummis] retires. This is not the ideal place for on-the-job training.

Hageman added that Trump is “fully aware” that she is running for Senate and that she would appreciate his support.

It’s not yet clear whether Hageman will face a tough fight for the Republican Party nomination, especially with Trump’s support. There are multiple opportunities for other Wyoming Republicans to run statewide, given the open gubernatorial race and Hageman’s campaign opening up his House seat.

The winner of the Republican primary would be in a strong position to win the Senate seat in this deep red state. Trump won Wyoming by nearly 46 percentage points last year. Hageman won his second term in 2024 by 48 points.

Although Wyoming is a solidly Republican state, Hageman faced a raucous crowd at town hall earlier this year. She was booed while commenting on federal government budget cuts, the Department of Government Effectiveness and the future of Social Security.

Hageman called the outbursts “over-the-top” and said, “It seems so bizarre to me how obsessed you are with the federal government. His adviser called the disruptions “pre-planned” and “political theater.”
