What should your winter driving emergency kit include?
Whether it’s a bag or box in the back or trunk of your car, you should have a kit for winter driving. According to the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, which is no stranger to heavy snow, your kit should include:
-
Blankets or sleeping bags
-
Extra hats, warm socks, gloves/mittens
-
Flashlight with extra batteries
-
Jumper cables and windshield brush/scraper
-
Drinking water and high-calorie, non-perishable foods (trail mix, energy/protein bars)
-
Sand or kitty litter to sprinkle around your tires for added traction in case you get stuck
-
Cell phone adapter/charger
Although it’s not included in the kit, it’s also essential to have a charged cell phone in the car and a phone charger on hand when traveling in winter.
