FRIDAY EVENING SNOW

Winter weather has spread across western New England this Friday evening and will begin to move closer to Boston just before midnight. Snow will fall heavily for the first hour or two before becoming lighter and disappearing early in the morning. Coastal towns, particularly near Cape Ann and along the northern half of the South Coast, will experience additional ocean-effect snowfall. Local amounts will be highest in these locations.

We expect a general level of 3-4″ around Worcester with higher amounts to the south and especially to the west. Boston will likely finish in the 2-3″ range. The aforementioned coastal areas will see a general total of 3 to 5 inches with an isolated total of 6 inches possible.

It will be very powdery snow, so easy to clean. Local travel may be slow Saturday morning, but this will not have a significant impact. All travel by land or air in the vicinity of New York will be slow/delayed until Saturday.

THE NEXT STORM

Cold air remains as we continue into Saturday. Highs will be in the mid 20s with a breeze in the afternoon. Sunday will warm up to around 30 degrees, but our next system will present dangerous icy conditions in the evening and overnight. Rain could freeze on roads and surfaces in the hills and Merrimack Valley before melting again mid-morning Monday. The rest of Monday will be mild, but rainy for much of the day.

NEW YEAR!

Expect 2026 to start exactly as we end 2025… COLD! Highs will fluctuate between 27 and 33 in the final days of this week, but dry weather will also prevail.
