Lace Nail Art Is the Dainty Winter Manicure to Try This Season

Looking to change up your winter manicure? Consider lace nail art, the latest trending design for the cozy season. Similar to the sheer pantyhose trend, lace nail art evokes the same delicate, sexy vibes as a lace design, perfect for pairing with matching underwear.
In years past, it was easy to opt for traditional winter manicures, using colors like forest green and crimson red, but textured nails are what everyone seems to be leaning towards this season. Even Kylie Jenner embraced the trend with sheer plaid nails that channel cozy oversized flannel. But among all the different holiday looks, lace nail art has truly become a very popular, yet unexpected, seasonal favorite.
“A big trend we’re seeing this winter is textures—think tortoiseshell, leopard, or sweater nails,” says Evelyn Lim, lead educator at MiniLuxe’s Paintbox studio in New York. “But what stands out this season are lace nails!”
Get ready to swap out your classic winter manicure and upgrade to dreamy lace nail art. Keep scrolling to learn everything you need to know about lace nails, how to create the look at home, what colors to use and more. Oh, and be prepared to take a screenshot before your next appointment.
What are lace nails?
Lace nail art creates a lacy effect, lingerie designs with gray and black tips that look like sheer pantyhose. Art can be painted or applied with stamps. There are also practical snaps, which will look great in an instant. Where does this new obsession come from? “People are attracted to this design because of its matte and glossy effect,” says Lim. “It’s a texture you can see and feel, and this design is also sleek, sexy and sophisticated.” They also have a vintage vibe, and we’re all loving nostalgic moments these days.
How to create lace nail art at home?
There’s no sugarcoating it – more intricate lace nail art can be difficult to achieve (pun intended) for beginners. If you’re just starting out or want to keep things quick and easy, there are tons of great lace nail art stickers and stamps you can find on Amazon. But if you want to get started with DIY nail art, Lim has a guide to follow for creating a sheer lace polka dot manicure that’s much more beginner-friendly than other, more detailed looks.
