Mikaela Shiffrin bounced back from a slow first run with a smooth second attack to continue her domination of the women’s World Cup slalom under the lights in Semmering, Austria, on Sunday.

“It didn’t feel good,” Shiffrin said. “I didn’t expect to get the green light. It was one of those days.”

The American, who won last year’s season finale and the first four races this campaign, finished the first round slowly and finished fourth.

On deteriorating snow, she was fastest in the second run to beat Swiss skier Camille Rast by 0.09 seconds and Albanian Lara Colturi by 0.57 seconds in third.

“Today was a tough day and you can see the skiing from these women,” Shiffrin said.

“It was a very difficult day today. Tough conditions and a very big fight. And the pressure is on and I did my best, the best race possible.”

Shiffrin moved to a maximum of 500 points in five slalom races, already 220 points ahead of second-place Colturi. In the general classification, Shiffrin has 698 points, 195 ahead of Rast.

When asked if his final race of 2025 marked a perfect end to the year, Shiffrin laughed.

“‘Perfect’? I don’t know if that’s the word, but it was definitely an ending,” she said.
