Deadly Midair Helicopter Collision In New Jersey Kills One, Critically Injures Another

One person was killed and another seriously injured after two helicopters collided in mid-air and crashed Sunday morning in Hammontonaccording to local authorities.

Emergency crews responded to reports of a plane crash near 11:25 a.m. in the Block 100 of Basin Roadthe Hammonton Police Department confirmed. Police officers who arrived on site discovered one of the helicopters engulfed in flames, which firefighters quickly extinguished.

The investigation could take months. Preliminary findings usually emerge within a few days of a major air accident.

Police said the collision involved two helicoptersalthough officials have not yet released details about the plane, flight paths or what led to the mid-air impact.

THE Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board have been informed and will investigate the accident, authorities said.

The lieutenant governor of New Jersey. Tahesha Way acknowledged the incident in a post on X, stating that state and local emergency personnel were actively responding to the scene.

“The Atlantic County Office of Emergency Management, Hammonton Police Department and New Jersey State Police personnel are on scene,” Way wrote.

Authorities have not yet released the identities of the victims or confirmed whether the helicopters were conducting training, private flights or commercial operations.

The investigation continues and additional details are expected to be released as federal authorities evaluate the wreckage and flight data.
