Most outdoor speakers claim they can handle water. THE Soundcore Boom 3i goes further: it is completely waterproof and dustproof with a IP68 but it is also resistant to salt water, which is still rare at this size and price. This is important if your weekends are spent on the beach, boats or the ocean rather than on a patio in your backyard. Plus, it floats and, more importantly, it faces up, which keeps riders out of the water and the sound is clear. This detail makes a real difference when waves or movement would normally cause a speaker to tip on its side. THE Boom 3i usually sells for $129.99, but it’s currently down to $79.99, its lowest price so far, according to price trackers.

It weighs just over three pounds and comes with a shoulder strap, so carrying it to the beach or campsite doesn’t seem like a chore. And by pushing up to 50 watts, the Boom 3i is loud enough to cover a small gathering of about eight people without sounding strained.

The sound quality is solid but not dramatic. You get punchy mid-bass and warm sound, but very little deep bass, which is what you’d expect from a compact front-facing speaker. There’s a BassUp button at the top if you want to put more emphasis on the bass, and the Soundcore app includes a nine-band equalizer for finer adjustment. Battery life is around 15-16 hours at moderate volume, and you can continue listening while charging via USB-C.

THE Boom 3i Nice extras include a Buzz Clean mode, which emits a low-frequency tone to shake sand and gravel from the speaker after a day at the beach. It works surprisingly well, although you may need to rinse or shake it afterward. Additionally, an emergency alarm and voice amplifier are built in, which could be useful for kayaking or group outings, although they’re not things you’ll use often. On the downside, the speaker apparently mixes stereo audio to mono unless you pair it with a second unit, and the app doesn’t display an exact battery percentage.

What do you think of it so far?

All in all, this is not the speaker for indoor listening or detailed sound. It’s for intense water trips where durability matters more than finesse. At this price, it’s a nice option for this specific use case.
