Food inspector attack in Belgium condemned

The Belgian Minister of Agriculture condemned an attack on a food inspector, which left him treatment in the hospital.
The Federal Food Channel Safety Agency (FASFC) said that two women inspectors had been submitted to verbal and physical threats last week of the staff of a food establishment without a license.
One of the police officers was attacked and suffered a concussion suddenly. It was processed by emergency and hospitalized services. IT equipment has also been considerably damaged.
Operations not registered
The re -inspection of Quaregnon followed a first check -in visit in April, during which the establishment was sentenced to a fine for not having any FASFC authorization. A case was opened and was the subject of a police investigation.
The Minister of Agriculture, David Clarinval, condemned the “unacceptable” attack.
“Attacking those who guarantee the security of our food chain is an attack on the rule of law and the protection of all citizens.
In situations where threats are made against staff, the FASFC action includes the filing of a complaint with the police; provide monitoring and support to victims; The FASFC can submit civil action to support its employees; And measures are taken against the operator, who may include the closure of the site.
Herman Diricks, Director General of the FASFC, said: “This last act of violence against our officers is deeply shocking. We cannot allow an official inspection, carried out in the interest of public health, to degenerate into physical assault. I offer full support to colleagues involved, to whom I wish a rapid recovery and in a largely all our field teams, who put their mission with a professional and a commitment. ”
The FASFC said that in 2024, 51 threats and attacks had been committed against its agents, and four judgments were rendered by the courts and courts following acts of violence, threats or resistance. Decisions have led to prison and / or fines, including compensation.
Questioning in the case of eggs
Meanwhile, progress has been made in an investigation involving the office of the Antwerp prosecutor and the federal judicial police (FGP) to see if eggs contaminated by Salmonella found themselves on the market.
After questioning, the investigating judge decided to release a 31 -year -old director of a farm. The man is the operational director of the company and the well-being of the animals played a role in the decision of the judge.
The company is accused of not correctly informing customers of the withdrawal of eggs. It is also alleged that the eggs were delivered to customers after the start of the judicial inquiry and the blocking of the company’s sales.
The FASFC issued a recall of the free eggs and affected barn eggs and ordered the destruction of eggs still on farms or points of sale.
