If your touchpad isn’t working on your laptop, you’ll have to rely on your mouse. But there are a few steps you can follow to troubleshoot a touchpad not working in Windows that might just fix the problem.
What to do:
First step
- Right click on the Windows icon then go to device Manager.
- Look for the option Mice and other pointing devices. Double-click it to reveal the devices listed below.
- Now right click on each device one by one and select Update driver. Then select Automatically search for drivers.
Second step
- Now click on Human interface devices. Look for a device that says touchpad. Once you find it, right-click and choose Update driverthen automatically search for drivers.

Third step
- If the first and second steps work, great. If not, click the touchpad again under Human interface devices and select Update drivers. This time select Browse my computer and select Let me choose from a list of drivers available on my computer. Then select your touchpad model from the list and click Next.
Step four
- If the steps above don’t work, you can try something else. Below Human interface devicesright-click on the touchpad then select uninstall device. Then in the top menu go to Action and select Check for hardware changes and your touchpad driver will be installed again.
I hope this fixed the issue and your touchpad works again. However, make sure to restart your PC after making these changes.
