Karen Read, the Massachusetts woman accused of having killed her police friend in 2022, was found guilty of murder, ending one of the most watched trials in recent history.

Ms. Read’s first trial collapsed in July 2024 after the jury could not make a verdict.

His boyfriend, Boston police officer John O’Keefe was found insensitive in the snow outside the colleague’s suburban house and then said dead.

Ms. Read faced several accusations and was accused of having deposited Mr. O’Keefe at the home of a police colleague after a night in Buy, to hit him with his car and to detach from the scene.

The legal saga attracted large crowds to the Massachusetts courthouse where its second trial began in April.

How was the second trial?

The jury concluded that MS had read not guilty of manslaughter guilty by the vehicle when it was intoxicated and leaving the site of the collision. But she was found guilty of drunk driving.

While the verdict was read, a strong acclamation could be heard in the courtroom from the outside of the Massachusetts courthouse where a large crowd had gathered, many carrying pink to show her support for Ms. Read. She hugged her defense lawyers and cried after the announcement of the verdict.

Ms. Read’s prosecutors and lawyers agreed for one year’s probation sentence for the accusation of poisoning, typical of a first offender.

The crowd outside, chanted “Free Karen Read” and made “I Love You” panels in the American sign language.

Testimony during the trial Expert witnesses included evaluating the location data of Mr. O’Keefe’s telephone, as well as a survey on damage to Ms. Read vehicle.

Among the people called to testify, there was Jen McCabe, a friend of Mr. O’Keefe and Mrs. Read, who was inside the house during the party.

Ms. McCabe testified that she was expecting the couple, that she saw a car that she believed to be Mrs. Read, but that they never came inside the house.

According to evidence introduced during the trial, Ms. McCabe also looked for “how long to die in the cold” on her phone, although there was a contradictory testimony as to the moment when she did the research.

Ms. McCabe was one of the people who found Mr. O’Keefe outside the house with Ms. Read the next morning.

The list of witnesses of the accusation also included a state soldier who was dismissed after revealing during the first trial he used a non -professional language to describe Ms. Read, and two other police officers who were officially disciplined after the first trial.

In their fence arguments, prosecutors focused on Ms. Read’s own statements to a documentary series, in which she said: “I did not think I was hitting him”, referring to Mr. O’Keefe, but that she can have “cut”.

The defense, on the other hand, suggested that Ms. Read was supervised by agents of the police in the social circle of Mr. O’Keefe. They pointed out “obvious dog bites” on his arm and a head injury he was suffering from falling back, arguing that he had been beaten and left outside in the cold.

The demonstrators were prohibited from the areas around the courthouse to reduce the risk of influencing jurors.

Ms. Read gave several interviews with the media after refusing to take a stand during her first trial. She also gave HBO permission to create the mini-series, a body in the snow: Karen Read’s test, which was monitored by millions.

“I have nothing to hide,” Read told Boston 25 News in February. “My life is in balance, and it should not be. The more the public has information, the more they understand what we already know.”

She did not testify during the second trial.

Who are Karen Read and John O’Keefe?

Before the case, Ms. Read, 44, worked as auxiliary professor at Bentley University and action analyst at Fidelity Investments.

She and Mr. O’Keefe were together for about two years before her death in 2022, but the last part of the pair relationship was troubled, the prosecutors argued.

Mr. O’Keefe, who died at 46, spent 16 years in the Boston police service.

What are the prosecutors allege?

The prosecutors alleged that the couple was drinking the day before before the withdrawal of Mr. O’Keefe’s body.

Ms. Read would have placed her boyfriend at a party at home. Leaving, she made a three -point turn, hit Mr. O’Keefe, then moved away, according to the prosecutors.

She returned to the party a few hours later with two other women and found Mr. O’Keefe in a snow bank.

His cause of death was then determined to be a trauma blinked with the head and hypothermia, reported NBC News.

Throughout their case, prosecutors alleged that the couple had a difficult relationship.

They said Ms. Read intentionally struck her boyfriend at the time with her car because of their relationship problems.

What did the defense argue?

In her first trial, Ms. Read did not take a position in the context of her defense, although she has the opportunity to testify during the second trial.

His lawyers argued that the investigators had inappropriate relations with witnesses and other people involved in the case.

The defense said that Mr. O’Keefe had been beaten inside the house party and then dragged out where it was found. They allegedly alleged that a police concealment had led to the fight against Ms. Read.

A large part of the case they presented during the first trial focused on what the defense called an investigation poorly carried out on the death of O’Keefe by local police.

Some of the investigators who supervised the case knew the police who attended the party at home that night in January, the defense said.

For example, the principal investigator, the soldier of the State of Massachusetts, Michael Proctor, admitted that he was a friend with the Boston police officer who welcomed the party where Mr. O’Keefe died.

Ms. Read was a “practical foreigner” which was targeted to ensure that the investigators did not look at other suspects, according to the defense.

Among the witnesses who spoke as part of the defense case, there was a retired medical examiner, Dr. Frank Sheridan.

He said that Mr. O’Keefe’s body would have had more bruises if he was hit by a heavy vehicle.

Who is “Turtleboy”?

Aidan Kearny, also known as “Turtleboy”, is an intriguing character to get out of this essay.

He is now faced with accusations for having allegedly intimidated witnesses involved in the trial.

Mr. Kearny runs the website “TB Daily News” where he writes under the name of “Turtleboy”.

He said Ms. Read was innocent and followed the case closely.

His writing frequently questioned the investigation into the death of Mr. O’Keefe and he often publicly confronted witnesses on the case.

During the case, the prosecutors shared several examples of banging witnesses with the jury.

Mr. Kearny was accused of intimidation of witnesses in October 2023 and then pleaded not guilty.

“They will never tear me away, they will never help me, never, from pointing out the truth about what happened to John O’Keefe,” Kearney told journalists after 2023. “Reporting the news is not harassment. Asking questions is not harassment.”

In December, he was again charged. This time on 16 new accusations which include the intimidation of witnesses and the plot to intimidate witnesses.

Prosecutors allegedly alleged that Mr. Kearny and Ms. Read were in communication and she shared information from the case that was not yet public.

Judge Cannone, who supervised the case, judged that Mr. Kearny should leave the courtroom when some witnesses have testified due to the accusations of intimidation of the witnesses brought against him.
