Dan Bongino, Matt Gaetz Trade Blows After Former’s Departure From FBI
Former Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Deputy Director Dan Bongino ripped into former Florida Republican Rep. Matt Gaetz on Tuesday after Gaetz mocked Bongino over his previous unsuccessful election campaigns.
Bongino, who announced his departure from the FBI in December, lost a primary election for a House of Representatives seat in Florida in 2016 after unsuccessfully running for the Senate and a House seat in Maryland as a Tea Party-aligned candidate, according to Ballotpedia. Bongino took aim at critics of the Trump administration whom he described as “black looters, losers, crooks and bums” who were acting in bad faith before Gaetz posted on X, asking Grok to describe Bongino’s election history. “Maybe if I had spent more time at shady parties with wealthy insiders, I would have won. I heard you know a little about it,” retorted Bongino, a former Secret Service agent. “By the way, you’ve always been an asshole. You cheat on your father like a little nursing puppy. When I first met you in the enclave, I knew you were shit. It’s written all over your fake face.”

One America News Network fired a producer from Gaetz’s show for publishing an anti-Semitic cartoon created with artificial intelligence in November.
President Donald Trump announced former Republican Attorney General Pam Bondi of Florida as his choice for attorney general in November 2024 after Gaetz, his original choice, withdrew from consideration for the position after allegations of sexual misconduct resurfaced via a House Ethics Committee report following Gaetz’s resignation from the House of Representatives. The Biden administration’s Justice Department has not charged Gaetz in connection with these allegations.
“When I was single, I often sent money to women I dated – even some I had never dated but who asked. I dated several of these women for years,” Gaetz posted on X after the House Ethics Committee voted to release the report. “I have NEVER had sexual contact with anyone under the age of 18. Any claim I filed would be destroyed in court – which is why no such claim has ever been filed in court.”
“My 30s were a time when I worked really hard – and played hard too,” Gaetz continued. “It’s embarrassing, but not criminal, that I probably partied, womanized, drank and smoked more than I should have earlier in life. I live a different life now.”
