Mother arrested after toddler dies from ‘significant injuries’ in Santa Monica

A 15-month-old girl died Tuesday after being found with “serious injuries” in a Santa Monica apartment, and the child’s mother was taken into custody, police said.
UCLA police alerted the Santa Monica Police Department shortly before noon about a woman detained on campus who had made statements indicating she had harmed her child and left her at an apartment in the 2000 block of Broadway.
Officers went to the apartment and found the small child with “serious injuries,” police said in a news release. The child was transported to a local hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.

Eyewitness News has learned the death involved a frying pan, but the nature of the small child’s injuries have not been released.
The woman was taken into custody in connection with the child’s death and transported to Santa Monica Jail.
Police have not released the woman’s name.
The cause and manner of death will be determined by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner.
An investigation is underway.
