DOJ Responds Accordingly After Mamdani Tenant Director Exposed As Property-Seizing Communist – RedState

Zohran Mamdani repeatedly said who he was during the New York City mayoral primary race and during the general election campaign, whether on the subject of Israel’s war with Hamas on 9/11, his soft-on-crime stances, his desire for “free” things for New Yorkers – which would of course be paid for by the “rich”, or his racial approach to “solving” the city’s housing crisis.
And on other topics, old tweets and videos unearthed by Internet sleuths have given us an even fuller picture of the man who was ultimately elected mayor of the Big Apple, perhaps most telling being remarks he made at a DSA convention in 2021, where he referred to “the end goal of seizing the means of production” and that he and his fellow democratic socialists should not give up on it, although the idea was not currently popular.

While it’s no surprise to anyone that the people Mamdani has lined up to serve in his administration have radically anti-capitalist, anti-Semitic, anti-American, and anti-white racist views that completely match his own, it was nonetheless eye-opening to read the deleted social media posts from his “Office of Tenant Protection” director, Cea Weaver, who, as we reported Monday, had him calling homeownership a “weapon of white supremacy.”
In another video that resurfaced, she suggested that “the transition to treatment [property] as a collective good [instead of an “individualized good”] towards a model of shared equity, will require us to think about it differently.”
And in December 2017, she called for “electing more communists,” which happened in New York eight years later with the election of Mamdani.
News of the clips and tweets prompted Harmeet Dhillon, assistant attorney general for civil rights at the Justice Department, to respond accordingly:
Dhillon, in an interview with One America News, added that the city government “should be on notice, they’re under scrutiny.”
“We have several federal laws that explicitly protect people of all colors and types of backgrounds and military statuses, etc., from the exact type of land grabs and repurposing and redistribution that is being promised in New York,” she told the outlet.

New York: Consider this your official review of @TheJusticeDept.
We will NOT tolerate discrimination based on skin color. This is ILLEGAL. @CivilRights is very attentive.

The possibility of the Mamdani administration reversing this policy is slim, given that not only has Mamdani himself openly talked about seizing properties in the name of “hearty collectivism” (and believes New York voters gave him a mandate to do so), but he and his transition team were aware of Weaver’s history before his nomination – and they followed him anyway:
So when right-wing activists released Ms. Weaver’s since-deleted messages this week, Mr. Mamdani was not caught off guard.
“It has been examined,” said a spokesperson for Mr. Mamdani, Dora Pekec, on Tuesday. “We knew about all these tweets.”
I look forward to seeing how this battle plays out in court, and we know that’s where it will end up. As always, stay tuned.
Editor’s note: Zohran Mamdani is an avowed democratic socialist and was just sworn in as mayor of New York.
