Comer, Luna Reveal Deep Trouble Ahead for Walz and Ellison During Wild MN Fraud Oversight Hearing – RedState

The House Oversight Committee held a hearing Wednesday on the massive fraud scandal in Democratic-led Minnesota that some reports say could reach $9 billion.

Republican Committee Chairman James Comer (KY-1) opened the hearing by saying, “Minnesota’s social services, which are funded by you, the American taxpayer, are being ripped off.”

“The scale and depth of this fraud is breathtaking, and I fear this is just the tip of the iceberg.”

The panel heard from four witnesses: GOP state Reps. Kristin Robbins, Walter Hudson and Marion Rarick, as well as Brendan Ballou, a former Justice Department prosecutor who is appearing as a witness for the Democrats.

When asked how fraud became so prevalent in Minnesota, Hudson said that “when people recognized that the system wasn’t working and they raised concerns, those concerns were ignored and a culture suppressing raising those concerns was fostered by the Walz administration,” referring to Democratic Gov. Tim Walz.

Things got heated for a while between Comer and Democratic Rep. Summer Lee (PA-12). Lee began to panic because of the money freeze.

But what does she want? Keep pouring money out without checking where it’s going? It’s not permanently deleted, but they have to make sure the information gets to the people it’s supposed to be for. The problem was that if we couldn’t do that, the money wouldn’t get to the people who needed it.

Comer said the inspectors general had failed here, and Lee started shouting back, “You’ve all failed!”

Um, no, it was the Democrats in power in Minnesota who failed. Comer replied: “You have failed. You want to spend more money, more money, more money!

But that wasn’t the only notable moment. Republican Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (FL-13) was questioning Republican state Rep. Kristin Robbins (MN-37A), head of the Minnesota House of Representatives Fraud Prevention Committee.

Luna said that based on testimony heard at the hearing, she believed there was enough evidence to make criminal referrals to the Justice Department against Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz (D) and the state’s Democratic Attorney General Keith Ellison. It’s a big problem.

Comer said he also intended to call both men to testify, and that they would be subpoenaed if they did not come voluntarily.

A spokesperson for Walz had no comment. A spokesperson for Ellison, a former congressman, said in a statement that the attorney general aggressively prosecuted fraud and “put fraudsters in jail while defending our tax dollars and the services they pay for.”

“Attorney General Ellison will respond to Rep. Comer’s invitation at the appropriate time,” Ellison’s spokesperson added.

Can you imagine Walz testifying – what a waste that would be? I would definitely break out the popcorn for this one.

Walz has already collapsed and abandoned his re-election bid because of the scandal. And it’s getting even worse, with the explosive legislative audit showing Department of Human Services records were altered. The federal government also sends a ton of prosecutors there to investigate and prosecute fraud.

So Walz, Ellison and other Minnesota officials better prepare to respond.
