Get a New iPhone for the Holidays? Turn Off This Setting on Your Old Device

Did you receive a new iPhone Air or device from iPhone 17 range for the holidays? Or maybe you decided to treat yourself and upgrade your device. Either way, Apple suggests you disable Find My on your old iPhone to protect your device.
THE Find my Apple’s app can help you locate your luggage in a busy airport, find a single missing AirPod, and make sure you know where all your devices are. Disabling Find My on an iPhone before giving it away disables its Activation Lock feature. This feature can prevent anyone from using the device, which is useful if your iPhone is stolen or falls into the wrong hands.
However, if you give your iPhone to a friend, Activation Lock might prevent them from using it. Fortunately, you can disable Find My in a few simple steps. Here’s how to turn off Find My before switching to a new iPhone.

How to turn off Find My
1. Faucet Settings on your iPhone.
2. Tap your name at the top of the menu.
3. Faucet Find my.
4. Faucet Find my iPhone.
5. In the new menu, disable Find my iPhone.
Now you should be ready to give away your iPhone. However, if you have Protecting Stolen Devices enabled, you will not be able to disable Find My. If you have Stolen Device Protection enabled, here’s how to disable it so you can disable Find My.
1. Faucet Settings on your iPhone.
2. Faucet Face ID and passcode. You may need to enter your password here to continue.
3. Faucet Protecting Stolen Devices.
4. In the new menu, activate Protecting Stolen Devices.
Once Stolen Device Protection is disabled, follow the steps above to disable Find My. But before giving away your iPhone, remember to delete all your personal information and factory reset your device, just in case. You don’t want information from your old iPhone floating around.
