Baby dies after falling from Edgewater apartment window

A 1-year-old boy died Friday after falling out of a fourth-story window his family had opened to ventilate their Edgewater apartment building, according to a police report obtained by the Tribune.
Muhsin Mirzoashrafov’s family was getting ready to go out shortly before noon when the baby climbed onto the living room couch and fell out of the window, according to the report. The boy’s parents and uncle told Lincoln District (20th) police that they opened the window to lower the temperature in their apartment, which had become too hot.
Muhsin fell in the parking lot of the building, located at 5820 N. Sheridan Road, and was taken to Ascension St. Francis Hospital in critical condition, according to the report. He was pronounced dead around 4:45 p.m., according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
The police report said the child’s death was accidental, and department officials said in a statement that they were still investigating the case. An autopsy was scheduled for Saturday.
