Homeowners looking for grid independence have another option today with the launch of Anker’s big-ass Solix E10 battery system. It joins companies like Tesla and EcoFlow in bringing whole-home backup solutions to the U.S. market designed to counter power outages and reduce monthly energy bills, if not eliminate them altogether.

The basic $4,299 E10 system starts with a power module and battery that can run a few individual devices and scale up to power an entire home. The 110.2-pound inverter is good for a constant output of 7.68 kW (or 10 kW for 90 minutes). It can produce up to 28.8 kW (120 LRA) peak when equipped with a single 6 kWh battery, or 37.2 kW (155 LRA) when configured with two or more batteries, enough to start a 5-ton air conditioner. Combine two E10 packages and you get a system capable of handling 66 kW (275 LRA) of peak power.

Combine up to three E10 systems to manage up to 27 kW of solar gain (9 kW per unit) and 90 kWh of battery storage. As a reminder, the average American home uses about 889 kWh per month, or about 29.2 kWh per day, according to the United States Energy Information Administration. This means that a maximum E10 system could run an entire house for three days on battery power alone.

For most people, having that much available battery capacity is excessive and very Dear. Instead, you can start with a simpler system to power only the most critical circuits. Anker makes this possible in several ways, and both require professional installation: a new Power Dock electrical panel that gives the owner intelligent control and automatic switching of up to 12 circuits (200 amps) in less than 20 ms, and the simpler Smart Inlet that requires manual intervention.

The E10 ecosystem also launches with a weatherproof Smart Generator 5500 tri-fuel generator that runs on gasoline, propane or natural gas. It starts automatically to keep everything operational when needed and reminds owners when it requires maintenance.

Anker’s promising one-stop and hassle-free installation services for its E10 Solix. Pre-order offers begin today, ahead of official sales which begin on February 4.

The basic E10 system (with an inverter and battery) costs $4,299. That increases to $4,599 when adding the Smart Inlet Box, or $5,799 if you go the Power Dock route. For $7,399, you get the E10 Base System, Smart Generator, and Power Dock Kit.
