In his pre-match press conference, Liam Rosenior was unable to confirm or outright deny whether Cole Palmer, Reece James or Malo Gusto would be fit for this match, but given they only missed the weekend’s FA Cup match due to precautionary and load management issues, it’s probably safe to assume they will be available for selection.

“They are well managed. It was a good time for them to rest during the FA Cup match. I believe in this group. There is no reason to take risks on the health of the players if you believe you can win the match…”

We’ve done a really good job this season of managing the workload of players like James or, say, Wesley Fofana, keeping them fit when they’re needed most. But this game would definitely be considered an hour of need.

Unlike all other rounds of this League Cup, this is a two-legged semi-final, with the away leg to follow in a few weeks’ time. So we can’t win the tie, but we can definitely lose it in the first leg. Unfortunately, Moisés Caicedo is suspended after receiving two yellow cards in the previous two rounds of this competition.

Choose wisely.
