Exclusive: Top Trump Adviser Sergio Gor Was Born in the Soviet Union
When he was appointed director of the Blank House Personnel Office under US President Donald Trump, a media report called Sergio Gor “perhaps the most powerful man you have never heard of.”
Gor’s public profile has increased more recently, as he continued his work supervising nominations of thousands of civil servants for the Trump administration. The media coverage has since completed a large part of its biography with a blatant exception – its birthplace.
Now the Times of Malta and the OCCRP have obtained a notarial Maltese property file which shows the origins of Gor. He was born Sergio Gorokhovsky on November 30, 1986 in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, who was part of the Soviet Union at the time.
GOR lawyer, Robert Garson, confirmed by e-mail that his client was born in Tashkent.
Gor had previously refused to say where he was born. The December 2024 profile of GOR by the Washington Post – which noted its low public profile, although it has become a “powerful man” in the Trump administration – completely launched the question of his birthplace. He called him an immigrant from the Malta Mediterranean island nation.
The Maltese history of Gor have since been cited in other media, including a New York story in June which drew widespread attention. Gor refused to reveal his country of birth to the newspaper, only saying that it was not in Russia.
The files indicate that Gor spent at least five years from his childhood to Malta. His mother created a Maltese company in 1994, listing his nationality as Israeli. Thanks to the company, she owned a house in Cospcicua, an ancient coastal city with a fortified port.
In 2021, Gor bought this house from his mother’s company for 255,000 euros ($ 268,000), according to the notarial property file which includes his birthplace in the Uzbekistan capital.
Garson said it was Gor’s family home that belonged to his mother, who has died since.
“Because of his affection for the island and his good childhood memories, Mr. Gor decided to keep it) in the family,” added Garson.
From the Salle College, a Catholic school for boys from Vittoriosa, a city near Cospicua, confirmed that Sergio Gorokhovsky was a student between 1996 and 1999. In an email, the school included the date of birth of GOR, which corresponded to the birthday listed in the property file.
When he was a boy, Gor’s family emigrated to the United States, where he became a citizen. His path to politics finally led him to work with Republican Senator Rand Paul, then on Trump’s orbit.
One of his activities with Paul was a trip to Moscow in 2018 funded by the Cato Institute, a libertarian reflection group at DC.
Gor also traveled to Moscow the previous year, according to disclosed Russian border records. He flew from Washington DC to Moscow with the Russian state carrier Aeroflot, and left the next day for Rome.
Guyon explained that Gor is “a passionate traveler”.
“It was a connection flight and an apropos of nothing,” he said. “M. Gor had no meeting, and any involvement would be otherwise malicious and defamatory. ”
Gor left Paul’s office in 2020 to work as the Chief of Staff of the Trump Victory Finance Committee for the failed re-election campaign. He also co -founded a conservative publishing company with Donald Trump Jr. called Winning Team Publishing.
