The Landmines Under the Water

For a few hours, we didn’t know why several high-ranking prosecutors, including the office’s recent acting chief, Joe Thompson, had resigned from the U.S. attorney’s office in Minnesota in the wake of the Renee Good shooting. As David Kurtz explains here, it appears to be a reaction to exclude local authorities from the investigation into Good’s death, combined with the order to open a criminal investigation into the activism of Good’s widow, Rebecca Good. So we know what it is, or we’re as close as we can get to knowing. But often in these cases we never get the full picture. Or we don’t know precisely why the person resigned. I thought about it. And it all resembles the gravitation that surrounds other major scandals. At first, at least, we don’t really see what is at the center of the scandal, but we can see the force of gravity surrounding it. There is something similar to these layoffs
