I always wanted to have my own SIM race configuration at home, but I haven’t had money or space for many years. I tried myself a little with inexpensive entry -level racing wheels, but none of these lower level solutions really worked for me.

Then, just a few years ago, I finally decided to spend a (reasonable) battery of invoices on something that would give me the feeling of race with me. It was the Logitech G923, However This is not the wheel with which I stayed. Instead, today, I use the Logitech G29, and honestly, this “demotion” turned out to be the best deal – let me tell you why.

Why I downgraded my racing wheel

When I bought the G923, it was because it was the best public mains wheel in Logitech with all the latest bells and whistles. More specifically, the new “TrueForce” feedback system which is actually a new generation rumble in the same vein as DualSense Haptics of Sony, or HD Rumble of Nintendo. I really appreciated this feature in Gran Turismo 7, which supports it.

However, there was a big Problem with this – my configuration is on the upper floor of the house. Which meant that while my wife was watching television below, it looks like a picker hammer that crosses the ground! It meant that I had to deactivate this feature. It would have been good since so few games supported him, but one morning a few months after buying the wheel, he would not light up. It seemed that the power supply had abandoned the ghost, so I initiated a return of guarantee.

The variety is the spice of life.

I had the opportunity to wait a month for a replacement unit or get the old G29 And Part of my money comes back for the price difference. As I had not used the bells and the additional whistles, I opted for the latter and I have not yet looked back.

Why the Logitech G29 works for me

There are two versions of this wheel, with the G29 for PlayStation consoles, alongside Windows and MacOS. This wheel will work with PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4 and even PlayStation 3. Unfortunately, this does not work with PlayStation 2, so I may have to buy a used G27 for Gran Turismo 4.

The other version of this wheel is the Logitech G920, which is more or less the same thing with the exception of Xbox consoles with Xbox buttons. Now, I have not used the G920 myself, but I can already tell you that if you do not have a PlayStation or that you do not want to use the wheel with a PlayStation, you would better get the Xbox version, because this controller standard has much better support in PC games.

However, there is an important difference. The G920 does not have the jogging wheel and the high / low selector button on the left. I found these very useful in Gran Turismo 7 To change things like the control parameters on the fly, but if you do not play games where this is relevant, you will not miss them.

Well, it’s cheaper than buying a car car

It is a wheel focused on equipment, instead of being focused on the belt, and especially as opposed to the sophisticated wheels with direct training of companies like Fanatec. The gears may not have the couple and the precise feedback of a direct driving system, and could be more noisy than a belt wheel, but it is a solid rock technology. There is a reason why Logitech always sells this wheel a complete decade after the release. It’s true, it’s also the 10th anniversary of the G29!

For me, as a relaxed guy from the SIM card, the G29 represents both the most and the least money I want to spend on this hobby, taking into account all the other components of a SIM implementation configuration. At the beginning, I used it with a large TV for immersion.

However, once I got my PS VR 2, it was the only way to play, and now that I also have the Sony superlative VR headphones, I moved my wheel and chair configuration to PC, using my laptop for play as a brain of the operation.

In case you ask yourself the question, I use the next level racing wheel, which allows you to perfectly manage cables, and also means no horrible office tightening, or pedals moving everywhere in the show!

Because the G29 and G920 are such popular wheels, most good racing games work outside the box with an existing preset, but thank you the Logitech G-Hub software, you can almost program all aspects of the wheel to meet your needs.

I work my G29 hard For almost four years at this stage, and that never gave me a day of problems. So, even if I am a sample, I owned a plot Logitech equipment and, apart from the G920 and its exploded diet, I have never killed me. This is why I have no trouble recommending this wheel to relaxed fans of sim like me.
