Residents across New York City and the tri-state area are bracing for disorderly travel conditions as another round of widespread snowfall falls Sunday.

Salt trucks and snow plows hit the pavement overnight in New York City as Sunday’s winter storm approached.

The snow accumulation is not as significant, but it is now the icy conditions that are of greatest concern.

New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani said nearly 1,000 sanitation workers were on hand along with more than 700 salt spreaders. The mayor says the number of workers is expected to double on Sunday to around 2,000.

This is the first snowstorm of the year and Mamdani’s first since taking office.

While Saturday’s snow came quickly and hit the entire region, Sunday’s snowfall is expected to get heavier as temperatures continue to drop.

In response, New York’s Department of Emergency Management issued a travel advisory and activated the city’s winter emergency plan, warning that the heaviest accumulation would occur between 8 a.m. and noon.

Both the Department of Sanitation and the city’s Office of Emergency Management are urging drivers to slow down on the roadways.

“Take it easy, take it easy. We’ve had instances where we’ve treated the roads and motorists were just driving a little too fast,” said New York City Acting Sanitation Commissioner Javier Lojan.

Eyewitness News caught up with runner David Lee in Central Park, who is braving Sunday’s weather to get his daily dose of exercise.

“I run every weekend, Saturday and Sunday, I actually walk, and I’ve been running kind of religiously for probably 30 years,” Lee said.

While Lee was initially hesitant to make the trip outside, he decided to do it.

“You know, I was a little conflicted. I was thinking, I don’t know, I do it in the snow all the time, but this morning it’s cold and a little wet. But yeah, I’m fine and I’m here,” he said.
