Donald Trump’s Response to Jeffrey Epstein Question Leaves MAGA Stunned

President Donald Trump faces a major reaction from his base on his answer to the question of a journalist on Jeffrey Epstein.
During a meeting of the cabinet on Tuesday, a journalist interviewed the prosecutor General Pam Bondi about Epstein. As she was starting to answer, Trump interrupted and said, “Do you always talk about Jeffrey Epstein? This guy has spoken for years. You ask – we have Texas. We have that. We have all things. And people are still talking about this type, this snap?
“Do you want to waste time,” he continued, adding: “I mean I cannot believe that you are wondering about Epstein at a time like this, where we have the greatest success and also the tragedy with what happened in Texas. It seems to be a desecration.”
The context
Earlier this week, the Ministry of Justice and the FBI announced the results of a joint review of the “investigation holdings relating to Jeffrey Epstein”, concluding that the condemned sex offender died by suicide in a New York prison in 2019 pending other charges of sex trafficking.
The agencies also said that Epstein did not have a “list of customers”, something that Trump suggested during his presidential campaign that he would release if it were elected.
In February, Bondi also fueled speculation on such a list when the publication of recordings related to Epstein is announced. But a large part of what the government later distributed was in the public domain for years. The conclusion of the FBI and the DoJ according to which there is no evidence of the long rumor according to which the “list of customers” of Epstein aroused criticism from the members of the Make America Great Again movement.
What to know
Conservative commentator Liz Wheeler was one of Maga’s figures who spoke against Trump’s response, writing on X, formerly Twitter, “Trump has not read his base on this subject.”
Kevin and Keith Hodge, conservative podcast hosts Hodgetwinswrote on X: “Pam Bondi embarrasses with this bulls excuse *** and Trump acts as the case of Epstein is not a big problem. It is a terrible look for the administrator of Trump.”
Rob Sullivan, a former law enforcement officer and Maga member, Robs, told his 22,000 subscribers: “Another bad look for everyone. Pam must leave, she kills the credibility of everyone. Sorry President, she makes you look like.”

On his podcast, Candace Owens, who has long supported Trump, discussed the president’s response.
“It’s incredible how stupid they think,” she said, adding, “what is even this Trump filibuster.”
During her remarks, Trump asked Bondi if she wanted to answer the journalist’s question. “I don’t mind responding,” replied the Attorney General. When the president finished speaking, Bondi addressed to the journalist and quoted an interview which she made with Fox News in February, which, according to her, had “attracted a lot of attention”.
In the interview, Bondi declared in response to a question on the “list of customers”, “he sits on my desktop to be examined”.
She said in Tuesday’s office, which means she meant “the file with JFK, MLK files”.
She added that the “tens of thousands of videos” linked to the case would not be published because they showed images of sexual abuse on children that Epstein had downloaded.
Addressing Epstein’s claim “to be an agent”, Bondi said that she had “no knowledge about it”.
The Attorney General also spoke of a video published by the authorities, which, according to her, was one of the evidence that showed that Epstein had died by suicide. She said that a minute was missing in the images “because every night, the video is reset, and every night should miss the same minute.”
What people say
The FBI and the Ministry of Justice declared in a memo published earlier this week: “Although we have worked to provide the public with maximum information concerning Epstein and ensured the examination of any evidence in possession of the government, it is the determination of the Ministry of Justice and the Federal Investigation Office that no other disclosure would be appropriate or justified.”
Elon Musk wrote on X last month in a post since deleted: “It’s time to drop the very large bomb: @realdonaldtrump is in Epstein files. This is the real reason why they were not made public. Have a good day, DJT!”
He added in another article: “Mark this post for the future. The truth will be released.”
The White House press secretary Karolina Leavitt said Nowsweek In response to Musk’s complaint: “This is an unfortunate episode of Elon, which is not satisfied with the only major bill because it does not include the policies he wanted. The president focuses on the fact of passing this historical legislation and making our country again large.”
What happens next
It remains to be seen whether the administration will respond to what has become a major decline in Maga supporters.
