EXCLUSIVE: State Department Slashes $1.8 Billion During Trump’s First Year

Trump’s State Department cut spending by $1.8 billion during his first year in office, the Daily Caller first learned.

As the Trump administration marks its first anniversary in office, the State Department is boasting about the savings it was able to deliver to taxpayers in fiscal year 2025. The savings come from three categories: professional services, the Office of Diplomatic Technology and transportation. and logistics, the department shared with the caller.

“The Trump administration is working tirelessly to serve the American people as effectively and efficiently as possible,” principal deputy spokesperson Tommy Pigott told the Caller.

“That’s why the State Department has saved the American taxpayer more than $1.8 billion through these cost-cutting measures, while ensuring that we are safer, stronger and more prosperous than ever. Better results at lower costs – that’s what happens when you put America first,” he said, adding that they will continue to look for other ways to cut funding.

Between fiscal 2024 and 2025, spending on professional services fell 24.6%, saving taxpayers more than $849 million, an official told the Caller.

During the same period, spending on transportation and logistics services decreased by 33.7 percent, saving approximately $544 million, the ministry said. The Office of Diplomatic Technology saved approximately $410 million during the same period. From 2024 to 2025, contracts increased from $1.109 billion to $700 million, the caller learned.

During the first year of the second Trump administration, reducing “waste, fraud and abuse” was a major priority. The president created the first-ever Department of Government Effectiveness (DOGE) in late 2025, led by Elon Musk and dedicated to reducing spending in the federal government. On Monday, DOGE reported saving taxpayers $215 billion since its efforts began.

In November, Reuters reported that Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Director Scott Kupor said at a recent event that DOGE as a “centralized entity” no longer existed. An administration official told the caller that DOGE is working and will continue its mission through May 2026. The official added that the DOGE central office is still staffed and assisting with the agency’s projects.
